Every Greek household maintained a sacred fire dedicated to Hestia, the goddess of the hearth, and the first obligation of the day was to tend it. The flame was never allowed to go out. If it did, it could not simply be relit. It had to be renewed through ritual, carried from a neighboring hearth or from the sacred fire kept burning in the prytaneion, the civil hearth at the center of every Greek city. The fire connected the private home to the public world, the mortal to the divine, the present moment to something that had been long burning.

The Scent

Cold. Green, Resinous.

Frost Resin is a cold winter morning after snowfall. It opens with silver fir and juniper, sharp and clear, closer to a forest in January than a holiday tree. Palo Santo moves through the center. The name is Spanish for holy wood, and it burns soft and faintly sweet. Balsam fir settles underneath, deep and resinous, holding the whole scent to the ground.
