Every Greek household maintained a sacred fire dedicated to Hestia, the goddess of the hearth, and the first obligation of the day was to tend it. The flame was never allowed to go out. If it did, it could not simply be relit. It had to be renewed through ritual, carried from a neighboring hearth or from the sacred fire kept burning in the prytaneion, the civil hearth at the center of every Greek city. The fire connected the private home to the public world, the mortal to the divine, the present moment to something that had been long burning.

How to Use
The first burn matters. Allow the wax to melt to the full edge of the vessel before extinguishing (approximately 2 to 3 hours). This sets the memory of the candle and prevents tunneling on every burn after.
Trim the wick to 3/16 of an inch before each use. Burn on a heat-resistant surface. Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Keep the lid on when not in use to preserve the scent and protect the wax. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
The Story
The labdanum in this candle comes from a distillery in Provence that has been tending plants since 1993. Their process uses lower temperatures than standard steam distillation, preserving the molecular complexity of the plant in a way most suppliers cannot. The sandalwood is sourced from Indonesia, unsprayed and aged 6 years before distillation. The vanilla is extracted from organically grown pods in Uganda through one of the most rigorous small-batch suppliers in the industry. The beeswax comes from hives that sit at the center of sixteen square miles of organic, pesticide-free land, managed according to organic beekeeping standards that support healthy bee colonies.
Every ingredient was chosen because of what it isn’t as much as what it is. No paraffin. No synthetic fragrance. No phthalates. Nothing that shouldn’t be burning in your home.
